Who we serve:

We serve a truly diverse population of students, coming from more than 40 countries and from all the continents of the world except for Australia and the Antarctic. Some are here as the refugees, some as immigrant, and some have come with family members who are at the university.

Many of our students are parents of k-12 students in the Lansing School District, and have a deep desire for their children to get the best education they can. It is very important to them to have the language ability to communicate with their children's teachers and schools. Many of our students have had sons and daughters who graduated with honors from the city's high schools.

A large number of our students are employed and still make the sacrifice of time and effort to attend school. Some are forced to compromise their class schedule in order to keep their jobs. Some come to morning classes after working the night shift. Parents of pre-school children sometimes share child care responsibilities in order to take turns attending school. Our students struggle against some difficult odds because it is so important to them.
